Tsodilo Hills, Botswana

Tsodilo Hills,Botswana: The San hunter gatherers revere the rugged Tsodilo Hills in Botswana ‘s Kalahari desert as the resting place of their ancestors. For the past 5000 years, they have made paintings of wildlife,ancestors spirits, and shamanistic rituals on rock outcrops in the hills.Many visitors claim to have left the brooding presence of the ancient spirits. The paintings are in remote area requiring 2.5 hours drive from the nearest paved road.

WASSU STONE CIRCLES

Gambia/Senegal: Scattered along the valley of the Gambia River is the most concentrated collection of stone circles in the world. In an area 62 miles long and 217 miles wide,between Saloum River in Senegal and the Gambia river,pillars of pitted and weathered laterite by a forgotten civilization encircle the burial mounds of nameless kings and chiefs dating back at least 1200 years. More than 1000 stone circles, together with tumuli and burial mounds, are grouped in four concentrations at Sine Ngayene,Wanar in Senegal,Wassu and Ker Batch in the Gambia. These sites are currently classified as World Heritage place.
