“The bid to stop the idea of spending so much on expensive laces for Aso-ebi has led to the evolvement of Ankara. There are so many Aso ebi for funeral, wedding and birthday. You find out that a society woman can spend almost N200, 000.in order to look good at any social event. Ankara is not expensive; so, it has led to the evolvement of Ankara in Nigeria. It is affordable and available. There is so much you can make with it. There are cottons which have different motifs and you can do a lot with it,” he said.
He further stressed that Ankara is comfortable to wear due to the weather. “You can make corporate and dinner wear with Ankara, depending on its motifs and colours,” he explained.
Most Ankara materials are beautifully made.
According to him, “At a point, we are beginning to bastardize the Ankara itself. In a bid to make a difference, we are beginning to make some horrible damage to its beauty. Every print has been designed in the factories and we are supposed to bring out its beauty. But what some people are doing is mutilating the design. Chiffon is wrongly placed on Ankara. You don’t need to do that. Just arrange it to bring out its beauty. There are some Ankara materials that you don’t have to mix with another material.”
